050907 Brazilian President Will Not Support Legalized Abortion

May. 9, 2007 (CWNews.com) - Brazilian President Luiz Inacio "Lula" da Silva has stated his opposition to the legalization of abortion in the country.

Speaking on the eve of a papal visit to Brazil, Lula responded to a surge of publicity for an effort to change the country's abortion laws. He indicated that he would not support that effort-- nor would he support plans for a referendum on the issue, as proposed by his own government's health minister, José Gomes Temporao.
