060701NYPOSTCOMABORT GROUP SUES GOV'T. By DEVLIN BARRETT
June 7, 2001 -- An abortion-rights group filed a federal
lawsuit yesterday trying to get the courts to overturn the
Bush-administration decision to yank funding for
abortion-counseling overseas.
President Bush rescinded the funding just days into his term -
reversing a policy that President Bill Clinton had begun eight
years before.
The New York-based Center for Reproductive Law and Policy
filed suit in Manhattan federal court, claiming the move
hampers its ability to promote family-planning services -
although the center has never received government funding.
