The notorious anti-abortion group Life Dynamics, known for efforts to stir up law suits against abortion providers, has latched onto a preliminary study published in the November 2,1994 issue of the Journal of the National Cancer Institute (NCI). The study suggests that there is a small increased risk of breast cancer among women who have abortions. Life Dynamics is using the data to deter physicians from performing abortions.
Life Dynamics is trying to identify plaintiffs for a class action on behalf of women who have had an abortion who are now diagnosed with breast cancer.
Meanwhile, the Harvard School of Public Health released a study showing no relationship between abortion and breast cancer risk. The study based on extensive data from 3,9058 women in 7 countries, the largest dataset ever used in studying the relationship between abortion and breast cancer.
