WASHINGTON, Feb. 9 (UPI) -Mrs. David Eisenhower advocated today the "total right of
self-determination" in lifestyle for women and said she thought the nation might have a female President within 10 years.
Mrs. Eisenhower spoke of women's rights and their role. In a speech for a luncheon of the-Mortar Board Alumnae, a national honorary organization of women college seniors.
"In short," the President's daughter Julie said "it's the total right of self -determination that, we're talking about. That Is what women's rights is all about. Not a threat but an
option Not a fixed role, but a choice.
"The freedom to make the choice of a life-style that is, most comfortable to you as an Individual and the knowledge that you can make that choice with confidence that society
will not limit the satisfaction you can derive."
Fielding questions from luncheon guests, Mrs. Eisenhower said the prospect of a woman President was not so remote, adding, "I can see it happening in
the next 10 years."
Asked whether she had any Presidential aspirations herself, she, said, "I'm not, even
planning to ran for Congress, and you need a stepping stone."
In her speech, she said that in her travels with her father It had become apparent to her, especially in the last few years "that women as a whole are, taking themselves more seriously."
"They are much more aware of their capabilities for significant achievement-in their
communities, in government, in industry," she said.
She said that women's legal rights and the opportunity for equal salaries for the same
work should be guaranteed.
She noted that while some women were seeking careers in the outside world, others found
full satisfaction in being homemakers.
