090578 REV. JOHN M. MUSCAT Comments on Polly Rothstein getting award for baby killing advocacy

Allow me to thank Sydney Stanton for the breath of fresh air she has helped to throw on such an up-to-now obscure controversy on whether to abort or not abort when, in your edition of Aug. 25, she panegyrized Ms. Polly Rothstein as "a woman with a cause."

Ms. Stanton's explanation of cause as "at the moment, is dealing with a woman's right to choose whether or not she wants an abortion" has me confused. I always thought, as a student of Scholastic Philosophy, that a cause is something positive. Now destruction, which incontrovertibly abortion is, is a negative.

Then there is that "woman's right to choose." Once again, this definition of right of choice boggles me. Right of choice, to me is convertible with freedom of will - right implies both human mind and will, constituting a human act. Now, I always thought that one is not free to choose except between two positives. There is no choice between a thing and a no-thing, or simply nothing. If you consider abortion as a negative, which any destruction is, whether it is the destruction of an unwanted race or an unwanted fetus, who would claim this right of choice?

For her efforts, Ms. Rothstein was named "Woman of the Year ' This adds to my confusion. I always held woman to be a very intelligent and wise child of God, put here on earth as the mother of the human race, to preserve it, to hold it together - a very positive purpose. Destruction? For whatever reason? Something must be wrong somewhere.

Nine Westchester organizations dedicated to her cause and concept. In other words, dedicated to abortion to negation of life.

Has there also been a coming together or religion and politics in the Westchester County Office Building? Well, we are told that Ms. Rothstein is "convinced that the issue of abortion is a religious on."

So "the opposition (to abortion) is chiefly a small minority of the Catholic Hierarchy." Gee, I did not know that. So not even all the Catholic Hierarchy? Only a small minority? This minority must be very wise to want to hold on to a positive choice against such a tremendous "majority," and marvelously influential in their vocality. The struggle is obviously still going as strongly as ever. My hat to them!
