100478 Award role

It is interesting to note that  The women behind "Women's equality Day 2003" who are NOW pro-life WERE NOT WANTED in the County Building and got the FOYER of the Legislature only after threat of legal action.-JPG

The Westchester Rockland Newspapers have carried several letters from Rlght-to-Lifers criticizing my being named Westchester Woman of the Year for my efforts in keeping abortion, legal and available.

I do not feel the need to defend the award, but I do feel obligated to set the record straight about the role of the county and Westchester County Executive Alfred DelBello,

The award was given by nine women's organizations, not the county or the county executive. The occasion was Women's Equality Day, an annual event. The ceremony took place in the county executive's conference room, as it has in past years. DelBello read a proclamation about Women's Equality Day, not about either legal abortion or  Me.

The county and DelBello played no role in selecting me as the recipient of this year's award.
