110878 Rebuttal (by an obviously APOSTATE Catholic )
I welcome responses to my letter but I found that of Elizabeth D. Corbett to be offensive and in poor taste. I used my maiden name to prevent obscene and hate phone calls which I invariably receive after m y letters to Public Opinion. I am disappointed that the editor published all of what she wrote. I am not dishonest. I am a first generation Italian American married woman, educated exclusively in Catholic schools and I taught CCD in my parish for seven years. Can be surprised at the pathetic state of CCD with characters like this teaching in them???-JPG have always been proud of being Italian and of being Catholic. However, since the Catholic bishops decided to actively campaign against freedom of choice for pregnant women it has become increasingly difficult for me to feel at home in my church. I find this experience very saddening.
Don't Let the Door hit you in the backside on the way out !!!-JPG
I also become very upset when political literature appears at election time and finds its way into the hands of churchgoers. The Conservative Party has also been distributing literature on church premises - Sacred Heart, Christ the King in Yonkers; at churches in Tarrytown. Hastings, and Ardsley. With or without pastor's approval, I think that every Catholic must ask themselves why the Conservative Party now feels so comfortable on the premises of a Catholic Church. Conservatives have been against labor unions, Social Security, food stamps, and many other just causes. Now they are waging an all out war against women's rights! They pretend defense of values. In reality they wish to maintain privileged positions.
I suggest that all of my "pro life" brethren examine the voting records of Dornan of California, Hyde of Illinois, Jesse Helms of North Carolina and other "pro life" heroes in Congress. I can and will hold all the leaders of my church and all of my brethren who engage in political activity, responsible for the entire spectrum of political decisions and their consequences in people's lives. You cannot in conscience consider only one issue at election time. Life is not simple; its very complexity attests to the inestimable wonders of our Creator.
