062279 Letter to Mr. Hoffman
Dear Mr. Hoffman,
Realizing that the tide is turning against abortion and acknowledging that the pro-lifers are "not only tenacious but well-informed",, the antilifers have authorized the expenditure of one million dollars to counteract the inroads the pro-lifers have made in exposing the errors and clarifying the euphemisms they (the anti-lifers) have been promulgating. They accuse the K1.'Lers of avoiding "the careful debate and public hearings of legislative process...." when the fact is that they will participate in discussions only if the ground rules they set up are observed which is like agreeing to box an opponent only if he will enter the ring with his hands tied behind his back. As an example, consider the NOW meeting of January 22,, 1979.
The enclosed article, "The Roots of Secularism - 18th Century" by Mary E, Cook which appeared in the Wanderer , June 21, 1979 is an excellent summary of the salient philosophic points on which the RTL position is based. I am sending it to you not to convert you but to enable you to understand more clearly the principles that animate the RTLers,
Most RTLers accept the statement in the Declaration of Independence that it is a self-evident truth that all man are endowed by their Creator with certain "unalienable" rights, that among these is the right to life.
PP, ACLU,, and the Secular Humanists in general deny the self-evident truth that there is a Creator. They consider people who are not contributors to be disposable much as highway engineers consider trees in the right,-of way to be disposable. They are unwilling to make the personal sacrifices entailed in ministering to the needs of the lame, the halt, the blind, the preborn, the born, and the senile,
Please continue airing the positions of both sides. Truth will eventually prevail,
Patrick H. NoHugh
