1976 Planned Parenthood Propaganda

Dear Friends:
During the preparation of the enclosed folder, 1976 THE GOOD OLD DAYS, the information it contains was shown to a long-time supporter of Planned Parenthood. After reading it, she told us ...
"I must admit, I was shocked to realize how close to home it all is. The year 2000 seems so far away. But, my two year old grandchild, Julie, will only be twenty-six by then. Most of us have worked so hard to build a good life for our families. It is frightening to think, because of fast moving events, she may not have the freedom to have her own family. What can we do to help? How can we get people to listen?"
PLANNED PARENTHOOD has been helping, fining, and trying-to make people listen ever since Margaret Sanger opened her first birth control clinic. We are now the largest voluntary family planning network in the nation. But, there are so many unmet needs. Contrary to popular belief, population growth in the U.S. is not yet under control.
- Close to forty percent of low or marginal income women still cannot obtain medically supervised birth control services. The result is unwanted children.
- Teenagers face the greatest difficulties obtaining sex information. The result
is an epidemic of V.D. and one million of our teenagers became pregnant last year.
- Millions of women are failing to use contraceptives effectively. The result was one million legal abortions last year.
If we as a society are truly serious about our desire to reduce abortion, it seems clear that we must be able to assure that information and the means necessary to prevent unwanted pregnancies are readily available. Our major concern has always been the realization that the problem of unwanted pregnancies is best controlled before, rather than after the fact. Safe and effective birth control must be made available to all who want and need it. At no cost if necessary.
Now, the anti-family planning mood of Congress is financially jeopardizing many of our programs, at home and overseas, through the loss of previously available funds. An example, is-the--banning of Medicaid payment for abortions. This singles out poor or welfare patients. They will be covered by Medicaid - in virtually all cases -
only if they carry their pregnancies to delivery. The burden of rising costs for providing safe, legal, family planning, must be shared with others. We need your help.
I hope that you will give us your financial support for what I am firmly convinced is the single most important issue of our time - population growth. Please give as generously as you can. Your gift is tax deductible.
Sincerely,
Jack H. Vaughn President
