The Lampstand
"You are the light of the world. A city set on a mountain cannot de hidden."
Nor do they light a /amp and then put it under a bushel Basket; it is set on a lamp stand where it gives light to a// in the house. just so, your light must shine before others that they may see your good deeds and glorify your heavenly Father. "
LifeNet's column The Lampstand keeps you posted on various pro-life groups and reminds you that you are the light shining brightly, each in your own way.
The Westchester Right-to-Life Party must qualify in NYS every four years by getting 50,000 or more votes for its candidates for Governor/Lt. Governor, and two years ago it lost its regular party line. This defeat was due in part to Tom Golisano's newsletter stating he was the only prolife candidate on the ballot. The pro-life candidate for Attorney General received 90,000 votes, but not enough to keep the major party line. The Right-to-Life Party is still in the courts to appear on the ballot as a regular party. With the support of five counties in the 9th Judicial District, they will be able to run candidates for the New York State Supreme Court this election.
For now, Right-to-Life is an independent party and anyone from any registered political party can sign the petition to get the party back on the ballot. Volunteers will start to gather signatures in July, so sign up now to help by calling Liz at 914-478-1189 for information about times and dates. They need EVERYONE, so call!
When Roe vs. Wade ushered in abortion-on-demand in 1973, the establishment of the Right-to-Life Party in Westchester County was not far behind. The party officially began in 1978; both candidates for the Governor's seat in New York were pro-abortion. With an
easily recognizable baby logo and a great deal of hard work, the Right-to-Life Party ran on an independent line and was able to garner over 100,000 votes, moving from Row I up to Row D! Thanks to a great showing of support from the pro-life community, the Right-to-Life candidate beat the Liberal Party candidate easily and almost beat the Conservative Party candidate that year.
The Right-to-Life Party has helped keep the plight of America's preborn on the ballot and on the political radar screen. Until other party candidates become consistent supporters of the human child in the womb, R-T-L will not allow them to be out-of-mind if out-of-sight during their most critical and formative months. Liz is convinced that the party approach can be a powerful tool if used properly - that means all pro-lifers vote the pro-life line - especially in the Governor's race every four years. Of course, this means changing voting habits, i.e., voting for the `lesser of two evils' in other political parties, or thinking a R-T-L vote is a `wasted' vote. Now you know why it is not.
