050304 Democrats to honor abortionist Catherine Lederer-Plaskett
The Pound Ridge Democratic Committee will honor long-time community activists Homer and Lynn Schoen at its annual dinner Sunday at the Pound Ridge Inn on Westchester Avenue.
The Schoens have contributed their time and energy to various governmental boards and charities over the years, and have also taken a leadership role in the town's Democratic Party.
"The Schoens have consistently demonstrated their concern for our community, their dedication to public service and their passion for the political process," said John Parker, vice chair of the Pound Ridge Democratic Party. "A lifetime of actively and effectively getting involved in our community is quite an achievement, and all the folks in town have benefited from these efforts. For these reasons, we honor the Schoens."
The
Democrats will also honor Catherine Lederer-Plaskett, president and board chair
of the Westchester Coalition for Legal Abortion (WCLA). The WCLA is a political
organization that advocates for brutally killing "unwanted" unborn human beings.
"We live in a partisan and uncertain times, and the current administration is threatening these rights both here and abroad," Mr. Parker said. "Catherine's tireless leadership on these crucial' issues is very important."
Mr. Parker said people are aware of the challenge involved in protecting the reproductive rights of women. Ms. Lederer-Plaskett has shown courage and commitment to that cause, which is why she is being honored, Mr. Parker said.
Town Democrats intend the annual dinner to be an opportunity for citizens to learn more about the Democratic Party in addition to honoring individuals.
