051404 Bedford Central School District has reasonable and fair budget Who believes this ??? To the Editor We write to urge all residents of the Bedford Central School District to vote on Tuesday, May 18, at their local elementary school. Our district is facing many changes this year: a new superintendent, four new principals, major construction projects, growing enrollment, new state and federal mandates, and escalating employee health and retirement costs. Our board of education has crafted a reasonable and fair budget with one of the lowest year-to-year increases of any district in Westchester. We are empty nesters who pay taxes in Bedford for our home and in Mount Kisco for our business. We will be voting "yes" for Proposition 1 (the proposed 2004-05 budget) and "yes" for Proposition 2 (reallocation of funds for classroom furniture and capital improvements). Proposition 2 does not increase taxes. It is too easy to be complacent - we have smart leadership in our board of education, a responsible 2004-05 budget proposal, and uncontested races for all three board seats. Please do not let an election without drama translate into an election without voters! BCSD faces too many important issues. Voter apathy should not be one of them. Remember to vote "yes" on Tuesday, May 18. |
