MEET THE BAUMANN SCHOOL BUS DRIVERS SCHOOLS |
May-31,1994 Dr. Thomas Sobol President of the University and Commissioner of Education The New York State Education Department Albany, New York 12234 Dear Dr. Sobol, As a candidate for the Bedford Central Board of Education in the May 11,1994 elections, I request a complete investigation regarding the role played by District employees in the election of my opponent, the present incumbent Karen Schecter. In early April, a flyer, produced by the Mt. Kisco Elementary School Association (MKESA), a parent organization in which Ms. Schecter is a member, endorsed her candidacy and was given to the students on school grounds to be brought back home to their parents. In response to this and other illegal activity taking place in the District, Superintendent Bruce Dennis issued an April 13,1994 Memo reminding staff of, " A court of Appeals decision,.'proscribing' such activities." When queried about the flyer at an April 29,1994 Patent Trader Editorial Board interview, Ms. Schecter admitted discovering a copy in her child's knapsack. Other irregularities within the District's purview included the use of the District's Parent Mailing List for an Election Mailing by the highly partisan "People for Public Education", copies of the "Special Budget Issue", a District publication in plain View of incoming voters, and errors in reporting the vote totals from the backs of two voting machines. When 50 votes pop up here and 100 votes there, I think everyone's entitled to an explanation. Events such as these do not inspire confidence in the electoral process. Besides a full accounting and appropriate penalties meted out to those responsible, I demand a public apology from the Board in the form of a Letter to the Editor in the Gannett Newspaper. I thank you in advance for your prompt response to my requests and I remain ...yours truly, Joseph P. Giardina cc: Bedford Central School Board ;Milton Hoffman, Gannett |
