Bedford school vote
Frisch will look after our interests
Electing trustees to the Bedford Central School Board is one of our more
important civic duties. These trustees are the ones who decide the direction of
our schools - academically and financially. The budget presented to the voters
ends up as a done deal. Voting "yes" or "no" really does not affect taxes
(declaring "austerity" after a "no" vote will result in 99 percent of the
defeated budget.) So what really matters to the electorate is not the budget,
but who sits on the board, who creates the budget and makes the academic
decisions.
Our opinion is that this board, on the whole, has been unimaginative, passive,
and, at best, only reactive to the crisis of-the-moment. Rather than conducting
back-and-forth working sessions in front of the public, we are only exposed to
final pronouncements of opinion immediately prior to board votes. The public
doesn't even know which board member to lobby on any given issue.
We think it is time to let other~ give it a try. Specifically, Bob Frisch ' Mr.
Frisch is the father of three children, two of school age. His professional
experience is in business and finance, He wants the best possible education for
his children and all our children. But Mr. Frisch is also a taxpayer. The $51
million pie may be more than this community can currently afford - its
distribution of the slices must change. We know Mr. Frisch will be an active,
productive member of the school board who will act as a trustee (in the true
sense of the word) for the children and the public, not for the status quo.
