Another attempt to grab our money
All the guided imagery, pretty web pages and PTA propaganda cannot sway voters to suspend their instinctual distrust of our school district's spending habits in its latest attempt to drain our pocket of more than
$28 million in principal and interest.
Typical of ambitious administrators wishing to keep up with their fellow travelers in neighboring school districts, this administration wants its "bond issue," too. A "Let's strike while the iron is still hot" mentality whittling away at the taxpayers' collective good faith and credit.
But Packed in with the already inflated construction costs are millions of dollars of perpetually delayed repair and maintenance projects, items belonging in an annual budget. But in an administrator's eye, the more maintenance dollars spread over several years in a bond issue, the more dollars available in the present for salaries and benefits. Taxpayers never get a true picture. Heads they win, tails you lose.
And why only one proposal? In an all too frequent display of paranoid
intransigence, the board's "Gang of Four" majority flatly refused to compromise with the newly elected
minority relying solely on its (discredited) experts and superintendent giving us Chicken Little forecasts of "overcrowding" and buildings crumbling down.
The board has wasted too much time on this issue already at the expense of focusing on what truly drives the spiraling cost of education: the curriculum, or, in this case, the lack thereof.
