After-School
Activities

The After-School Activities program got off to a great start. A big "thank you" goes to all the parents for being so cooperative, helpful, and flexible. Another big "thank you" goes to the instructors; all the kids say the classes are great! We would love to hear from you regarding what new courses you would like for the Fall and if you would be able to teach.

As far as this first session goes, the computer class was a big hit. (We will try to offer more than one computer class going forward.) Nat Picco (Team 2) said "In Computer Fun I learned more about the Writing Center and Kid Pix. Miss Ermer taught me how to play a game with the floppy disk. I had fun."

Another popular class was Fun in the Kitchen, taught by Amy Galloway, for students from Teams 2 through 4. Jeff Feintuck (Team 3) said "this class made Monday one of my favorite days of the week." Sara Nausch (Team 1) took the Creative Dancing class with Denise Tillman. Sara said it "was the best thing that ever happened to me!"

"I hope the school will continue After-School Activities next year" said Andrea Picco (Team 4) who also took the cooking class. Yes, Andrea, so do we.

The Board ...

is still looking to fill some spots. The positions of corresponding secretary and Co-President are available. We realize that some of you may be interested, but are afraid to come forward fearing that this is a larger task than you may have time for. Take it from this year's Board: the job is NOT all-encompassing, nor is it difficult. It is, however, rewarding and interesting. Call any of the current board members for an accurate job description. (You can find a listing of current officers in the Directory.) You may find this to be a perfect way to be more involved in your child's elementary-school years.

Earth Day T-Shirts
Make a Hit

Our first attempt at selling Earth Day T-shirts proved to be most successful. Lots of kids and teachers were seen wearing them at the Spring Fair and they looked terrific! We sold over 675 shirts which produced a profit of approximately $2300. Our plan was to make a profit of $1000. As a result of school-wide sales of over 500 pieces, anyone who sold 5 or more shirts will get an additional 1 free shirt. You will be contacted in May regarding this gift.

It's Family Fun Time

Hopefully by now everybody has received sign-up sheets for Family Fun night. Remember, anyone in the West Patent family is welcome to participate including parents, siblings, and staff members.

Please return the sheets by Friday April 28th. There will be no sign- up sheets accepted after that date! For more information call Jeanne Ziminsky (241-9280). See calendar (column 3) for time and place details.

Look Who's Talking!

This month our guest speaker will be Dr. Bruce Dennis. He will be speaking about the 1995-1996 Budget and answering questions afterward. Dr. Dennis will be speaking at about 8:30 PM, so be prepared to stay a little later than usual.

Make arrangements now to have lunch at school with your children on Wednesday, May 3rd. More information will be coming from each Team so be sure to check the book bags!

Compact for Learning

The Compact Building Team is continuing to work on a Code of Behavior for West Patent. The point of this Code is to have a uniform set of guidelines, rules, and consequences. The Code of Behavior will be presented in a positive light around the theme of "We're Partners in an Excellent School" (WPES).

The parents of all the school teams met recently at the invitation of the District Team Parents. All of the Building Teams were represented. It was a great opportunity to meet and share ideas about what they are currently working on. Some of the topics were how to find a Community representative, communications, and what the parents and their respective building teams see as their roles. The parents plan to meet again in the future.
