Dear Ninth Grade Parent(s);


For the past ten years, every ninth grader has been asked to take the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI). Based on the personality theory of Carl Jung, the MBTI is an instrument that helps individuals develop an understanding of their "personality preferences" - the unique strengths and weaknesses they bring to different tasks. Its purpose is to inform, not to stereotype. The results are non-judgmental: there are no right or wrong answers on the test and there are no "better types." The test results DO NOT become part of their school file.

Each student will receive a personal report from the Center for the Application of Psychological Type (CAPT) at the University of Florida. The theory and results are then generally discussed with each ninth grade class by a member of our faculty that has been certified by CAPT. Type preferences are then used as the basis for developing personalized skills strategies, and for various curriculum projects. The overall purpose is to have students learn to trusts their strength's and develop in an area of weakness, as well as develop an acceptance of other peoples' unique qualities.

If you do not wish your son or daughter to participate in this activity, please let me know. For the sake of your convenience, if we don't hear from you, I'll assume you have given your permission. If you wish to discuss this matter with me, please contact me during school hours.
